Evaluation part 1

Evaluation

The narrative of our film is of a girl who gets kidnapped by a sociopath who believes she is his daughter, even though his daughter has been dead for years. We established this plot after deciding our film was to be a thriller, and a notable thriller film, Taken, is based around a kidnapping so we thought this would be a good basis for a thriller.
Our first typical thriller convention is the male vilain and female
victim. Women are often the victim in thriller films and it is common that they provide the motive for the hero of the film. Our film on the other hand is unconventional in that it's the mother of Isabelle that comes to her rescue and not a man.
Another thriller convention present in our film is the locations used in our films. The place where Isobelle is kidnapped is a gloomy, lonely path through the woods which is a shortcut to get home from from school, which would be a typical place for a kidnapping in a thriller film. Another conventional location used in our film is the basement that Gary uses to hold Isobelle captive in. Small, isolated places tend to be used for captivity in thriller films to emphasise the hopelessness and fear the captive must be feeling.
