Confined Spaces.
Film of the thriller genre tend to include confined spaces, this could be things such as cells, tunnels etc. They make the audience feel like they are trapped like the character. The characters within these places breathe heavily and panting, often leading to a struggle to break free.
Within our film, we are using a basement as a confined space. This is to create the feel of the daughter being trapped as she struggle to break free from the sociopath.

Woods
Woods are very common within thrillers. This is because they create a feel of being lost and confused. Woods are also isolated, like the character. They also create a create a feeling of vulnerability.
We are using a wood like setting when the girl is taken, this is to show her vulnerability.

Knives
Knives create the feeling of danger as they have connotations of things such as death, blood, and pain.
Bars on Windows
This would be used for our basement scenes in order to show the isolation of the character, as well as her being trapped with 'no escape'.
